Milagro

we have seen
many moons of
tumbling leaves
grown through
long winters of
short tempers
we planted you
with conversational
silences hushed
tones of ecstasy
deep in my belly
while rain fell
and God spoke

i thought of you
long before you came
i saw your skin
the color of sand
your eyes
the color of wonder
your innocence
greater than the
pyramids
more precious
than the jewels
of the Nile

in awe i
watch you grow
in the likeness of
God and the image
of me
You are a
greater gift
than the sun

my Child
